The Official Kick off Celebration to Roof Sit 2010, sponsored by Carrabba’s Italian Grill is scheduled for Thursday May 20 at 6:15 p.m. at the Roof Sit event site, on the corner of South Westnedge and Milham. This is a fundraising event targeted to raise $7,500 to support two programs at the Community Healing Centers, the Children’s Advocacy Center and Infant and Parent Services. The overall Roof Sit event fundraising goal is $75,000.
The Carrabba’s Italian Grill Celebration is the official kick-off to Roof Sit. Carrabba’s Italian Grill has generously donated 200 dinners and tickets are sold for $20 as a fundraising event targeted to generate $4,000 for Roof Sit. This is a family event targeted to reinforce our commitment to strong families and supporting children’s needs. The dinner ticket includes: appetizers, a two course dinner, dessert and beverages. Tickets can be purchased by calling 269-343-1651, ext. 154. The meal is served outdoors in a picnic format and will include: Italian French Bread, Caesar salad, Chicken Marsala and Penne Pomodoro. The dessert feature is the Sogno Brownie, or as they say in Italy, the “Chocolate Dream” Brownie.
The event will feature a One-in-Ten Auction and participants will be able to bid on items by purchasing an auction bid in the amount of one-tenth of the item’s value. With only ten bids sold per item, each participant has a one-in-ten chance of winning the item when the roulette wheel is spun. All the items have been donated by area businesses and individuals in an effort to raise money for these important programs that benefit our children in our community. There will be approximately 30 featured auction packages.
Friday - May 21
Make sure you bring your dancing shoes because Roof Sit is cutting up a rug! The dance-a-thon, taking place May 21 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the event site on Westnedge and Milham, is an event that tests dance partners stamina and skills. Couples will dance for as long as they can to outlast competing partners. But make sure you’re not just swaying back and forth, otherwise our event judges will ask you to leave the floor! The couple that dances the longest will receive prizes. The cost to participate is $20 per couple. Partners will receive a complimentary 15 minute break during the dance-a-thon to catch their breath.
Saturday - May 22
The “Glamorous Girlfriends Party,” taking place Saturday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is one of Roof Sits newest events! Come to the event site on Westnedge and Milham and be treated like a star. Roof Sit is a yearly event that raises money to treat and prevent child abuse. 103.3 KFR Morning show hosts together with the team from KFR take turns throughout the three days living on the roof during the day. At night, the Community Healing Center therapists, the people that work with children who have been abused and neglected, will sleep on the roof of Helzberg Diamonds and Hairmaster Building at Southland Mall. Together the 103.3 KFR team and the Community Healing Centers take to the roof for 3 days and 3 nights, broadcasting Live to raise money and awareness to fight child abuse and neglect
Who benefits from the money raised for Roof Sit?
Children who live right here in our community benefit by receiving help from the Children’s Advocacy Center. Families benefit when Infant and Parent Services social workers provide help, guidance, and support to families that are at-risk for child abuse and neglect.
How does Roof Sit work?
Over 1,000 individuals, businesses, service groups, schools and school groups help to raise money for Roof Sit. Fundraising takes place before, during and sometimes after the event. Prior to the Roof Sit Event Days (May 20-22), groups plan independent fundraisers, so that when the Event takes place May20-22, they can come down to Roof Sit at the corner of Westnedge and Milham Road in Portage on top of the Helzberg Diamonds/Hairmasters building and make their donation. There are many ways for groups to raise money. Use this website as a resource guide to make fundraising easy and fun. We will come and meet with you and your group to help identify a fundraising program that will be rewarding and supportive. And, remember, as we plan for May 20-22, during Roof Sit it’s easy to participate. Here’s what people do:
